Why the configuration model is the whole story
Enterprise IT pain comes from a service desk that cannot answer two questions: what changed, and what will this change break? BMC bet on a configuration model that is actually kept accurate — incidents, changes and assets resolved against one CMDB, with Discovery feeding it and AIOps opening incidents from detected faults. BMC calls that ServiceOps.
The Mumbai region
Oracle Cloud in Mumbai, with backups in Hyderabad — data stored in-country. BMC does not document processing location, and services using IBM Watson features may move select data abroad.
On-premises is not Remedy
A containerised deployment on current releases — 26.2.01 reached on-premises on 8 June 2026, eight days after SaaS. It is not Remedy. Every SKU is labelled SaaS, so confirm availability.
What is and isn’t bundled
CMDB and asset management come in both Standard and Advanced. Helix Discovery, which keeps the CMDB accurate, is separate, from $50,000. You buy Helix Service Management or Helix ITSM.
The ownership transition
On 17 June 2026 Montagu agreed to buy a majority of BMC Helix from KKR-owned BMC Software; not closed, no date disclosed. Roadmap, support and pricing can shift after a carve-out.
Start with the platform (BMC Helix ITSM, with the CMDB included) — then decide whether Discovery is funded, because that is what keeps the configuration model true.

Storage rule? OCI Mumbai, backups in Hyderabad, both in-country. Processing? BMC doesn’t document it — ask in writing. IBM Watson features may move data abroad.
Decide SaaS or on-premises before you talk price
On-premises is current here, not a legacy holdout. But every SKU BMC publishes is labelled SaaS, so confirm new customers can still buy it at quote stage.
Budget Discovery separately, or accept a decaying CMDB
The CMDB is bundled; Helix Discovery, which keeps it accurate, is a separate SKU from $50,000. Price both, or expect a hand-kept CMDB that drifts.
Ask what the carve-out means for your contract
Montagu’s 17 June 2026 deal awaits regulatory approval with no closing date. Get support, roadmap and renewal-pricing protections into the contract.
Sanity-check the size fit

Five pitfalls that cost buyers quarters
Buying the CMDB and forgetting Discovery
The CMDB is bundled; Helix Discovery, which keeps it true, is not — it starts at $50,000. A CMDB nobody trusts still drives change decisions, so budget Discovery with the platform.
Reading the PinkVERIFY entry as a current ITIL 4 certification
The registry carries no expiry dates, and PeopleCert split from Pink Elephant in May 2023. Cite it for what it is: a real listing for 18 process areas, not an ITIL 4 certification.
Assuming the registry version is the current release
The PinkVERIFY entry reads ‘BMC Helix 25.4’ — the assessed version, not what you would deploy. The current release is 26.3; quoting 25.4 in a negotiation looks a year out of date.
Confusing on-premises with Remedy
Modern Helix on-premises is containerised and actively released; Remedy is the legacy line. Don’t rule out on-prem as legacy, and ignore third-party Remedy end-of-life dates — BMC states none.
Naming the wrong CEO in a board paper
Ali Siddiqui is CEO of BMC Helix; Ayman Sayed is President and CEO of BMC Software, a separate business after the carve-out. A Helix paper naming Sayed reads as pre-split.
