Quick answer

Datto, founded in 2007 by Austin McChord, has been a Kaseya company since June 2022, when Kaseya paid $6.2 billion; Kaseya’s CEO is Rania Succar. The line is mostly backup and disaster recovery (SIRIS, Endpoint Backup, Backup for Microsoft Azure, SaaS Protection) plus Datto RMM and Autotask PSA. It is sold through MSPs with no public prices; Kaseya lists only its 365 Ops bundle, at $129 a user a month. No India data centre. Read more ↓ Show less ↑
The portfolio

Seven intel pages. BCDR, backup, RMM, PSA and EDR.

Datto, product by product — every linked card is a full intel page, from disaster recovery and RMM to the MSP’s service desk and EDR. Datto is a Kaseya company: see the Kaseya hub for Unitrends, Spanning, VSA and the rest.

The thesis

Why “through your MSP” is the whole story

Datto sells only through managed service providers — so the price, the contract and the support all come from your MSP, not from Datto. Choose the MSP as carefully as the product, check where the Datto Cloud keeps your data, and Datto is a strong recovery stack.

01
Private backup cloud

Datto Cloud

Datto’s own cloud, not a public one: nine data centres in seven countries hold offsite copies and run virtualised servers in a disaster.

02
Local recovery layer

SIRIS & ALTO appliances

Hardened Linux boxes, or a virtual SIRIS, that keep backups on site and can boot a failed server locally. ALTO covers up to four agents.

03
One backup console

Unified Cyber Resilience Portal

Announced in April 2026 to show on-premises, SaaS, endpoint and cloud backups in one view instead of a separate portal for each.

04
Agentic AI layer

Kaseya Intelligence

Kaseya’s AI brand since April 2026, drawing on the backup and endpoint data it manages; opened to outside assistants such as Copilot in June.

Start with the job — recovering servers, backing up laptops or SaaS, or running the MSP — then ask your MSP for the quote.

Answer three questions; we’ll point you at the right starting product. No email required — this isn’t that kind of quiz.

Datto ALTO
The small-business desktop appliance on the same platform as SIRIS, limited to four protected agents.
Datto Cloud
Datto’s private cloud of nine data centres in seven countries, used for offsite copies and cloud recovery.
Instant virtualisation

Track 02 · Buying guides

Buy it like you’ve done this before

The procurement playbook TechBag runs with IT buyers — steps, licensing cheat-sheet, and the pitfalls that cost quarters.

01

Start with the MSP, not a price list

Datto sells only through MSP partners and has no public prices. The MSP quotes the kit, sets it up and usually manages it.

02

Map each workload to one product

On-site servers to SIRIS, laptops to Endpoint Backup, Azure VMs to Backup for Azure, and Microsoft 365 or Google to SaaS Protection.

03

Pick a retention tier

BCDR plans keep one or seven years of backups, or everything for as long as the subscription runs. The tier sets the monthly fee.

04

Read the exit terms

The appliance goes back within 30 days of cancelling. Plain Endpoint Backup keeps nothing after the plan ends, so export first.

05

Decide where copies may sit

Datto has no Indian data centre. BCDR copies go to Singapore at the nearest, and SaaS Protection data never leaves its six countries.

06

Get it priced in rupees

Datto quotes in US dollars. TechBag scopes the products, arranges the MSP route and gives you the figure in INR with GST.

Datto publishes no standalone prices — only Kaseya 365 Ops at $129 per user a month. TechBag gets your MSP’s quote and shows it in INR with GST.

Five pitfalls that cost buyers quarters

1

Treating the appliance as an asset

SIRIS hardware comes with the subscription and goes back to Datto within 30 days of cancelling. Budget it as a monthly cost.

2

Buying plain Endpoint Backup for DR

Only the Disaster Recovery SKU can boot a machine in the Datto Cloud, and you cannot switch to it once a disaster has started.

3

Running production in the Datto Cloud

Cloud virtualisation is for emergencies and DR tests. Datto may shut down a virtual machine that stays up after the crisis ends.

4

Asking for Kaseya 365 Backup

There is no such edition. Endpoint and User carry some backup, but SIRIS and ALTO sit outside every Kaseya 365 bundle.

5

Assuming an Indian data centre

No Datto product stores data in India. SaaS Protection has no Asian region at all, so check each product before you sign.
