Quick answer
HPE Zerto, product by product — every linked card is a full intel page, from on-premises DR to EC2-native recovery in AWS.
Journal-based VM replication, failover and tests.
Replicates VMware, Azure, AWS and HPE VM Essentials VMs to a second site, rewinds them to seconds before an attack, and runs DR tests.
EC2 recovery across regions, zones and accounts.
Protects Amazon EC2 instances across regions, availability zones and accounts, with automated failover, recovery and test workflows.
A validated reference architecture, not a licence: the Advanced Resilience Edition plus HPE Alletra storage, ProLiant servers, Aruba networking and HPE services in an isolated site
A per-VM licence valid for six months, for moving or consolidating workloads, which can be upgraded to the full edition; HPE’s own spec sheet is inconsistent on whether it is still orderable, so confirm first
The same software resold by Commvault inside its Autonomous Recovery portfolio, generally available since 18 December 2025; a buying route, not a separate product
Multi-tenant licences for service providers selling DR as a service, priced per VM with a minimum VM commitment and volume discounts, with HPE Tech Care included
Zerto sells across 2 of the products TechBag carries in backup & cyber resilience. The Backup & Cyber Resilience guide shows how the category splits and which part is yours. →
Most disaster recovery restores from last night’s backup. Zerto replicates every write as it happens, so a failover loses seconds of data, not a day. It is not backup — the journal keeps at most 30 days — so pair it with one, and size the DR site you will run.
The security-hardened Linux appliance that runs each site; the old Windows manager was dropped for vSphere in 10.0 and for AWS in 10.0 Update 6.
Every write lands in a journal kept for up to 30 days; Virtual Protection Groups bring multi-VM applications back as one, in write order.
Detects suspicious encryption while data replicates and labels the clean checkpoints; CrowdStrike Falcon and Microsoft Defender alerts can tag them too.
A built-in assistant answers questions from Zerto’s documentation, and the Zerto Context Protocol lets outside AI tools query the manager.
Start with where you must recover — your own second site, a cloud region or AWS — then count protected VMs.
Every claim on this hub traces to one of these public signals.
absent from the 2025 and 2026 backup Magic Quadrants; no Forrester Wave placement since 2022 and no GigaOm Radar entry found
by brothers Ziv and Oded Kedem, with offices in Herzliya and Boston
net cash at closing; Zerto then had about 500 staff and over 9,000 customers
NVD returns none for Zerto, and no Zerto entry is on CISA’s known-exploited list
graybox tests of the manager, cloud appliance and In-Cloud each year, per Zerto’s security policy
HPE Zerto Software from Commvault went on general sale on 18 December 2025
AI Assistant, MCP server, Recovery Plans and VMware to HPE VM Essentials replication
none found on Zerto or HPE pages; ask HPE for audit evidence before you sign

A lottery operator explains why it chose Zerto for cyber resilience.
Two company-level views you won’t find on any vendor site — tap any dot for the rationale. The category-level grid lives on the product page.
Each dot is a Zerto solution area: competitive position vs category momentum.
Zerto’s home ground: journal replication with seconds-apart recovery points and failover tests that leave production alone.
Breadth of resilience work per vendor (backup, DR, cyber vault, SaaS) plotted against how openly it publishes prices.
DR, cyber recovery and migration only, not backup; quote-priced per VM, with one public AWS Marketplace pack for In-Cloud.
Positions are TechBag’s illustrative synthesis of public review-platform standings and vendor documentation — not a reproduction of any analyst graphic. Verify before relying on it.

Answer three questions; we’ll point you at the right starting product. No email required — this isn’t that kind of quiz.
1. Where do the workloads you need to protect run?
2. What is the main job?
3. How would you rather buy it?
Zerto keeps up to 30 days of recovery points to get systems running fast. For months or years of history, keep a backup product too.

Every protected VM needs a licence, so list the VMs and group them into the applications that must come back together.
Confirm each VM runs on a supported platform, then pick the recovery site: your own, an Indian cloud region or a provider.
Enterprise Cloud covers replication, failover and migration. Advanced Resilience adds vault functions if you plan an isolated site.
Perpetual licences need HPE Tech Care for at least a year; subscriptions run 1, 3 or 5 years with support included.
Decide how many days of history to keep, up to 30, then size storage and compute at the target for a full failover.
HPE quotes Zerto with no list price. TechBag scopes the licences, arranges the HPE partner route and quotes in INR with GST.
| Product | Licensing model | How you enter | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zerto Software · Enterprise Cloud | Per protected VM · perpetual with Tech Care, or 1, 3 or 5-year subscription | Quote through HPE or a partner | DR and migration |
| Zerto Software · Advanced Resilience | Per protected VM · Enterprise Cloud plus vault functions; upgrade available | Quote through HPE or a partner | An isolated cyber vault |
| Migration licence | Per VM · valid six months, upgradeable to Enterprise Cloud | Quote; confirm it is still orderable | One-off moves |
| MSP licences | Per VM · minimum VM commitment, volume discounts, Tech Care included | Quote through HPE | Providers selling DRaaS |
| Zerto Software for AWS / Azure | Marketplace cloud appliance · licence brought from HPE | Appliance listed free; licence quoted | DR into AWS or Azure |
| In-Cloud for AWS | AWS Marketplace contract · 10 EC2 instances for 36 months; AWS charges extra | $17,970 per contract (published) | Workloads already on EC2 |
HPE publishes no Zerto list price; the one public figure is the AWS Marketplace In-Cloud pack. TechBag quotes per protected VM in INR with GST.
The journal keeps 30 days at most, and HPE no longer pitches Zerto for long-term retention. Keep a backup tool alongside it.
HPE’s web page lists Hyper-V, but current 10.x releases do not support it; Hyper-V sites stay on the older 9.7 line.
Zerto protects virtual and cloud machines only. Nutanix AHV is not supported, and Zerto for Kubernetes has been retired.
HPE has retired the managed version. Today you buy the software, through a provider or via Commvault.
It is a reference design: Advanced Resilience licences plus HPE hardware and services, each quoted on its own.

*TechBag’s illustrative estimate, not a quoted analyst figure. The takeaway: ransomware has turned DR into cyber recovery — which is why Zerto now flags encryption in the replication stream.
Zerto 10.9, released in May 2026, replicates between VMware and HPE VM Essentials and adds a one-way move.
What it means for you
Ask whether your DR tool can also carry you to the next hypervisor.
CrowdStrike Falcon alerts tag Zerto checkpoints from 10.8, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint alerts from 10.9.
What it means for you
Ask how a DR product finds the last clean point, not just the latest one.
HPE’s Cyber Resilience Vault pairs Zerto with isolated HPE storage, servers and networking.
What it means for you
Test that a vault can restore cleanly, not only that it is air-gapped.
Zerto 10.9 added a built-in assistant and an MCP server that outside AI tools can query.
What it means for you
Check what an AI agent may read and do before you connect it to a DR console.
Open either intel page for the deep dive, or let a TechBag advisor build the case with you — protected-VM counts, the DR target site, quotes, trials, GST invoicing and lifecycle support included.
