Your backups finish every night. Nobody has timed a restore — Unitrends Backup runs one feature set as a virtual appliance on your hypervisor or cloud, or as a Recovery Series box of 2 to 120 TB — with instant recovery and Recovery Assurance tests that report the restore time you actually reached.

This page covers Unitrends Backup — Backup Software, the Recovery Series Gen 10 appliances, UniView, Recovery Assurance, and the Forever Cloud and Endpoint Backup add-ons. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
One box or virtual machine holds the backup software, the storage and the recovery tools, so there is nothing else to assemble.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A self-assembled backup stack | Unitrends Backup |
|---|---|---|
| What you assemble | A backup server, a storage array and software licences | One appliance, virtual or physical, with the software inside |
| Setting schedules | A job per server, edited by hand | SLA policies that build jobs from the RPO you set |
| Getting a server back | Rebuild it, then copy the data back | Instant recovery from the backup, or bare metal |
| Proving recovery | A restore test when someone remembers | Scheduled Recovery Assurance reports with real RTOs |
| Ransomware | Backups on a Windows share malware can reach | A hardened Linux appliance with backup-data scanning |
| What it is NOT | — | A published price, or an Indian cloud location |
The cheapest test is a free trial of the virtual appliance: protect one server, run a Recovery Assurance test, and read the RTO it reports.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
A prepackaged virtual appliance with no proxies or add-ons to install, running on vSphere, Hyper-V or Nutanix AHV, or deployed into Azure or AWS.
Fifteen models on a hardened Linux base, from a 2 TB all-flash micro-tower through 1U boxes to 2U NVMe units of 32–120 TB, with the same software inside.
A SaaS portal, free with the product, that shows status and alerts for every appliance, virtual or physical, across sites from one screen.
Forever Cloud keeps copies for 90 days, 1–7 years or indefinitely, and DRaaS runs workloads there after a disaster; six countries, none in India.
One backup engine in two forms — a virtual appliance on your hypervisor or cloud, or a Recovery Series box, all seen in UniView.
Unitrends Backup puts the software, the storage and the recovery tests in one appliance, virtual or physical.
Physical servers through agents, VMware, Hyper-V and AHV without them, plus SQL Server, Oracle and Exchange; Kaseya counts 250+ versions.
SLA policy automation builds and schedules the backup jobs from the recovery targets you set, instead of one job at a time.
Adaptive inline and global deduplication with compression; Unitrends says it cuts the storage needed by as much as 20 to 1.
Instant recovery for VMware, Hyper-V and Windows, with P2V, V2V and V2P moves, so a failed machine runs before a full restore.
Hot or cold bare-metal recovery brings a failed physical server back, onto the same hardware or onto dissimilar hardware.
VMware and Windows replicas wait as standby machines, and backups export as VMDK, VHD, VHDX or RAW disks when they must move.
Scheduled application-level tests boot backups in isolation and report the RTO and RPO actually reached, not the ones you hoped for.
Predictive analytics scan backup and replication data for ransomware patterns and alert IT before a poisoned point is restored.
A hardened Linux appliance, AES-256 at rest and in flight, multifactor sign-in and role-based permissions; FIPS 140-3 per Kaseya.
Ransomware detection in the backup data, Helix self-healing (now an add-on), protection for Azure workloads, and the Recovery Series idea on older Gen 8 hardware. All from Unitrends’ official channel, which has posted nothing since 2023.
How the backup flags ransomware patterns; “Unified BCDR” was the 2022 marketing name, not a product you can buy today.
Helix spotting and repairing VSS errors before a backup fails; from 2020, and Helix is now a paid add-on.
Running Unitrends protection for workloads in Azure, the cloud deployment option for the backup software.
The Recovery Series idea of one box with software inside, shown on Gen 8 hardware that Gen 10 has since replaced.

Backup Software and the Recovery Series run the same engine, so you choose the form, not the features. Put the virtual appliance on vSphere, Hyper-V, AHV, Azure or AWS, or buy one of 15 Gen 10 appliances from 2 to 120 TB usable; UniView, a free SaaS portal, watches all of them together.
Recovery Assurance boots backups on a schedule in an isolated environment, checks the application answers, and reports the RTO and RPO it achieved. Instant recovery runs VMware, Hyper-V or Windows machines from the backup, and bare-metal recovery rebuilds physical servers onto dissimilar hardware.
The appliance can feed Forever Cloud for long-term copies, bought in 500 GB steps, and Unitrends DRaaS, whose Premium tier carries what Unitrends calls the industry’s only 1-hour RTO SLA. Both are separate contracts, and both live in the Unitrends Cloud, which has no Indian location.
There is no public price, and the licensing metric is set on the quote. Gartner dropped Unitrends from its 2026 backup Magic Quadrant after one year as a Niche Player. Kaseya also sells Datto SIRIS, a parallel appliance line. The official video channel has been quiet since 2023, and the cloud tier stores nothing in India.
List servers, VMs and apps with their data sizes and retention, then decide whether the software or an appliance fits.
Pick the model by its suggested backup TB at your retention, not by usable TB, and get the licensing metric in writing.
Rack the box or import the virtual appliance, add hosts and agents, and let SLA policies build jobs from your RPOs.
Schedule an application-level test on your most important server and compare the reported RTO with your target.
Choose a second box at another Indian site, a tertiary copy to S3, Blob or Wasabi, or Forever Cloud outside India.

“We racked a 1U Recovery Series box on a Friday and had every VM backing up by Monday. Policies did most of the work.”
“Recovery Assurance gives our auditors a report with the restore time we actually hit, not a promise in a policy document.”
“A RAID failure took out our file server; we ran it from the appliance with instant recovery while the vendor replaced disks.”
“We run the virtual appliance on Hyper-V at two plants and watch both in UniView. No hardware to ship to the second site.”
“Size the box on suggested backup, not usable TB. Our first model filled up within a year once retention grew.”
“It works, but the quote took weeks and the cloud copy could not be kept in India, so we keep a second box ourselves.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the backup and recovery market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Quote-only; appliances licensed to usable capacity.
The grid nobody publishes — how many forms the product can run in vs how much restore testing comes built in.
VM on three hypervisors or two clouds, or 15 boxes; Recovery Assurance built in.

Unitrends Backup is one of 27 backup & recovery products TechBag carries. The Backup & Recovery guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (servers and VMs under protection; IT admin-hour cost). Estimates model admin time spent scheduling jobs, chasing failures and running manual restore tests, at an assumed 1.5 hours per protected machine a year, with 70% of it removed by SLA policies and scheduled Recovery Assurance tests. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Quote-only. Neither unitrends.com nor kaseya.com prints a price in any currency; both lead to a quote form. Recovery Series appliances are subscriptions, each licensed to its usable capacity, from 2 TB to 120 TB. For Backup Software the licensing metric is set on the quote. Forever Cloud (bought in 500 GB steps), Unitrends DRaaS and Helix are separate add-ons. TechBag sizes the appliance first, then quotes in INR with GST.
Best when you want hardware with the software inside
Best for a broader rollout
Best when you already run vSphere, Hyper-V, AHV or a cloud
Whatever the list prices above, TechBag negotiates a significantly better deal — with GST-compliant INR invoicing and local support. Ask us for your discounted quote.
Tell us your requirements and current tools — we’ll model it against what you spend today.
Take this into your next vendor call — including ours.
Software on your hypervisor, in Azure or AWS, or a Recovery Series box? Each needs a different quote and support model.
Which model’s suggested backup TB covers your data at your retention? Usable TB on the datasheet is the raw figure.
What is the licensing metric on the quote — capacity, sockets or workloads — and what happens at renewal?
Is every workload on vSphere, Hyper-V, AHV or a supported physical OS and app version? Check the compatibility list.
Will the second copy sit at another Indian site, in your own cloud bucket, or in the Unitrends Cloud outside India?
Which servers get scheduled Recovery Assurance tests, and who reads the RTO and RPO reports each month?
Do you need Forever Cloud, DRaaS or Helix now? Each is a separate line on the quote, so price them up front.
Who answers at 2 a.m. — Unitrends direct or a partner — and is the quote itemised in INR with GST?
