Your technicians walk to desks to unlock accounts. The fix could come from one console on your own server — Dameware Remote Support takes over Windows, Mac and Linux machines and fixes Active Directory accounts, services and event logs — from servers on your own network, bought once per technician with no monthly fees.

This page covers Dameware Remote Support — including Dameware Mini Remote Control, its remote-control component. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
Software that lets a technician see, control and repair a distant computer — and, in Dameware’s case, manage its Active Directory account and services without a full session.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | RDP, desk visits, free viewers | Dameware Remote Support |
|---|---|---|
| Locked accounts | RDP into a domain controller to unlock | Unlock and reset from the Dameware console |
| Remote control | RDP plus assorted free viewers | One licensed viewer for Windows, Mac and Linux |
| Machines that will not boot | A desk visit to press the power button | Wake-on-LAN, Intel vPro AMT and KVM |
| Who connected | Nothing beyond the ticket note | Event-log entries that cannot be disabled |
| Where it runs | A vendor’s cloud relay | Servers on your own network |
| What it is NOT | — | Not a session recorder or a phone-support tool |
The cheapest test is the 14-day trial: push agents to one site, unlock a real account from the console, and time the ticket.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
A Windows application on the technician’s PC that holds the remote-control viewer, Active Directory tools and admin utilities; each licensed seat may be installed on up to three machines.
A small service on each target accepts sessions only under the rules you set — shared secret, admin-only, IPv4 filters or Windows groups — and writes every connection to the event log.
In centralized mode one server on your network holds the licences, technician accounts with Active Directory sign-in and a central log; the off-network and mobile features depend on it.
The Internet Proxy lets technicians reach machines outside the network without a VPN, and the Mobile Gateway serves the technician phone app; both work only in centralized mode.
Everything sits on your network — a technician console, an agent on each machine, and an optional server for off-LAN reach.
Dameware Remote Support lets a technician control and administer any machine on your network from one console you host.
Mini Remote Control drives Windows machines natively and reaches Mac and Linux over VNC, from the same console that holds the admin tools.
Intel vPro with AMT, Wake-on-LAN and KVM control let a technician power on, reboot or see a machine whose operating system has stopped responding.
In centralized mode the Internet Proxy brokers sessions to machines outside your network, and a mobile app lets technicians connect from a phone.
Across several domains, technicians unlock accounts, reset passwords and edit Group Policy objects from the console, with no full session opened.
Reboot a machine, stop services and processes, copy or delete files and clear event logs remotely, leaving the user’s desktop untouched.
Ping, traceroute and DNS lookup ship with the console, and AD objects or system configuration export to CSV or XML for an audit file.
Technicians sign in with a smart card, and users can authenticate on the remote machine with their own card — a first, SolarWinds says.
Sessions use Microsoft cryptographic providers up to AES-256, and a FIPS mode built on the FIPS 140-2 validated RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME module.
Agents can ask the user’s permission before a session, write event-log entries that cannot be disabled and email an alert on each connection.

SolarWinds lists Dameware Remote Support from $520 per technician with no monthly fees and no cap on end devices, and its datasheet calls it a perpetual licence. Nothing runs in a vendor cloud, so sessions and logs stay on servers you pick — in India, if you choose.
Most support tools stop at the screen. This one adds Active Directory work across domains — unlocking accounts, resetting passwords, editing Group Policy — plus remote services, processes, event logs and TCP tools, so many tickets close without a session at all.
Smart Card logon, a FIPS 140-2 validated crypto mode, Active Directory sign-in, IPv4 filters and consent prompts suit government-style and regulated networks, while Intel vPro, Wake-on-LAN and KVM reach machines that will not boot.
No session recording is documented, phones and tablets cannot be controlled (the mobile app is for technicians), internet sessions need centralized mode, and SSO means Active Directory, not SAML. You patch it: CVE-2025-26396 needed Mini Remote Control 12.3.2 in June 2025.
List who needs remote control only (Mini Remote Control, from $370) and who also needs AD and admin tools (Remote Support, from $520).
Standalone suits a single-site LAN; off-network machines or the mobile app need a Centralized Server and the Internet Proxy.
Push agents by mass deployment, turn on AD sign-in, and time locked-account and stuck-service tickets against today’s method.
Set shared secrets, admin-only access, IPv4 filters and permission prompts; switch on FIPS mode or smart cards where rules demand.
Check the Web Help Desk link first — WHD 2026.2.1 pauses the Dameware integration — and name an owner for SolarWinds advisories and Dameware upgrades.

“We bought twelve technician licences once. Three years later we still run them, which finance prefers to yet another yearly subscription.”
“Half our tickets are locked accounts. Unlocking them from the console, without taking over anyone’s screen, shortened the queue fast.”
“Our plant PCs sit on an isolated network. Dameware runs entirely inside it, and having no cloud relay is why we chose it.”
“Auditors asked for session recordings and we had none. It does not record, so we now write fuller ticket notes instead.”
“Reaching laptops at home meant standing up centralized mode and the Internet Proxy. It works well, but budget a week for it.”
“Smart-card sign-in for technicians met our department’s access rules without adding another product to the estate.”

Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Perpetual from $520 per technician; self-hosted.
The grid nobody publishes — how much of the product and your session data you can keep on your own servers, India included, vs how much Windows and Active Directory work a technician can do without a full session.
Self-hosted only; AD, services, event logs, vPro.

Dameware Remote Support is one of 22 remote support & access products TechBag carries. The Remote Support & Access guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (Windows endpoints you support; technician-hour cost). Estimates model technician time spent walking to desks, opening full sessions for account unlocks and service restarts, and switching between admin consoles at an assumed 1.5 hours per endpoint a year, with 70% of it removed by remote admin and Active Directory tools in one console. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published, in USD: Dameware Remote Support starts at $520 per technician and Dameware Mini Remote Control at $370, each with no monthly fees and unlimited end devices; SolarWinds’ datasheet describes a perpetual licence. Maintenance renewals are not priced publicly, and the cloud sibling, Dameware Remote Everywhere, is a separate yearly subscription. TechBag sizes your technicians first, then quotes in INR with GST.
Best for LAN-only remote control
Best for a broader rollout
Best for Windows and AD service desks

Take this into your next vendor call — including ours.
Does every technician need AD and admin tools, or only remote control? Mini Remote Control from $370 may cover some seats.
Do auditors need session video? None is documented here — Remote Everywhere records to the cloud, so decide before buying.
How many machines sit outside your LAN? Reaching them needs centralized mode and the Internet Proxy on your side.
Must technicians control phones or tablets? This product cannot; its mobile app only connects technicians to Windows PCs.
Is SAML single sign-on required? Technicians sign in with Active Directory SSO, MFA or smart cards instead.
Who applies Dameware updates? Self-hosted means you patch — CVE-2025-26396 needed Mini Remote Control 12.3.2.
What does year-two maintenance cost? SolarWinds prints no renewal price, so have it written into the quote.
Can finance pay a USD invoice, or does it need INR billing with GST through a reseller?
Count which technicians need only remote control and which need the admin tools, or let a TechBag advisor scope a 14-day trial on one site and settle standalone against centralized mode.
